Solution
The minimum voltage provided in the specification sheet is the minimum voltage that the IEPE sensor must meet as excitation voltage to be under the IEPE compliance voltage range. Therefore, it is better to assume the IEPE compliance voltage provided in the specification sheet as a maximum value from the NI device's perspective. If the maximum excitation voltage for IEPE sensor is beyond the IEPE compliance voltage, then the supported value is between the IEPE minimum excitation voltage and IEPE compliance voltage. Please refer to the example below.
Example:
- NI Card's IEPE compliance voltage = 22 V minimum
- IEPE Minimum Excitation Voltage= 5 V
- IEPE Maximum Excitation Voltage = 25 V
- Supported Excitation Voltage = 5 V to 22 V
If the IEPE sensor consumes excitation voltage more than the IEPE compliance voltage, it is recommended to lower your measuring scale to lower your maximum excitation voltage needed. On the other hand, you can also consider using an NI module with higher IEPE compliance voltage or IEPE sensor with lower excitation voltage.
