Can the NI-8262 Be Used for PXI Chassis Expansion?

  • NI-8262

Issue Details

  • I want to daisy-chain 2 PXI(e) chassis using a NI-8262. Is this possible?
  • What hardware do I need to connect a PXIe chassis to another PXIe chassis with a NI-8282 expansion module?

Solution

The NI-8262 expansion module can be used for PXIe chassis expansion with the following hardware:
  •  A PXIe chassis with at least one free PXIe or Hybrid slot (to act as the master chassis).
  • A downstream PXIe chassis with a free PXIe or Hybrid slot, and a PXI controller slot.
  • A PXI-8370 in the downstream chassis controller slot.
  • A MXIe x4 to x4 cable, or MXIe x4 to x1 cable.

For installation instructions, refer to Archived: NI 8262 Installation Guide (August 2007).
Note: consult page 4 of External: Set Up Your MXI -Express x4 System to understand NI-8262 and HDD RAID compatibility.

Additional Information

A NI-8262 cannot be used for PXI chassis expansion if the downstream chassis does not have a PXI controller slot. Refer to Meaning of PXI and PXIe Slot Symbols to identify slot types.
For most PXIe-to-PXIe chassis expansions, a suitable PXI bus extension module and PXI remote control module must be added to each downstream chassis. Refer to Expanding or Daisy Chaining Multiple PXIe or PXI Chassis for further information.
