Issue Details

  • I have enabled Jumbo Frames on a Remote Target that appears in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). After, I noticed that all my NI software loads very slowly. What is causing this?
  • After enabling Jumbo Frames on a CompactRIO, NI MAX and LabVIEW take a long time to launch. What is wrong?
  • I have configured a Real-Time target to use a Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) of 9000. This caused the software on my host PC to slow down significantly. How can I prevent this?

Solution

When using Jumbo Frames on any network device, all devices in the network must also support Jumbo Frames. This includes network switches, routers etc.

Failing to enable Jumbo Frames on all devices can cause NI MAX or LabVIEW to freeze or significantly slow down.

Note: Transmitting Jumbo Frames over multiple hops can cause significantly slower processing of Ethernet frames. Therefore, minimise the amount of hardware in the network so that fewer devices have Jumbo Frames enabled.
