Issue Details

I have downloaded the NI-certified LabVIEW Plug and Play (project-style) Instrument Driver for my Fluke 5502A instrument, which can be found at Fluke 5XXX Series Multicalibrators Calibrator. When running a shipped example of the Fluke Instrument driver I get the following error message:

Error -1074003951 occurred at Initialize.vi Possible reason(s): Hex 0xBFFC0011 Identification query failed.

I have also found that when sending the IDN command to the instrument with the NI-VISA Test Panel the instrument will reply back with the same message, and only after a second reading I will get the expected response.

Solution

The Fluke 5000 series multi-calibrators features a remote interface setting that changes how the instrument responds to commands. Some models by default come with the TERM option, which makes the instrument echo the commands sent before replying with the expected value.

To solve the issue, set the remote interface selection setting to COMP (computer), which doesn’t echo the commands sent. In the case of the Fluke 5502A this setting can be found by pressing the SETUP front panel key, then navigating through INSTMT SETUP >> REMOTE SETUP >> HOST SETUP >> NEXT MENU >> REMOTE I/F

In the case of other models refer to the Operator manual.
