Issue Details

I am using my PXIe-5668 with the RFmx driver API for C#. In my application, my PXIe-5668 exports its clock to a PXIe chassis through the 10 MHz REF OUT pin. However, I get the following error:

NationalInstruments.RFmx.SpecAnMX: -1074118630: The LO returned the following error:

A PLL lock error occurred.
If you are using an external reference, make sure it is connected and meets the frequency and voltage level requirements. Also, make sure the device has fully warmed up.

Device Component: 10MHz PLL
Additional Error Info: PLL failed to lock
Status Code: -223587
Error code: -1074118630

How can I get rid of this error?

Solution

The PXIe-5668 hardware is a Vector Signal Analyzer or VSA. This device is comprised of three subsystems:
  • PXIe-5606: RF Signal Downconverter.
  • PXIe-5624: intermediate frequency (IF) digitizer.
  • PXIe-5653: RF Analog Signal Generator synthesizer/local oscillator (LO) source module.
The error indicates there is a potential issue with the LO, the PXIe-5653. This card has strict requirements for clock accuracy and stability. Therefore, if you are exporting its clock to another device, and this other device is having issues in its clock circuitry, you will potentially get this error.

In this case, it is recommended to replace the device that is receiving the clock from the PXIe-5653 with another one.
