Issue Details

I am a Software Administrator and we are moving to another server. I have created a backup file  in NI VLM.

When I'm restoring NI VLM from the backup file  on the new server I receive the following error:

"Select a valid NI VLM backup file".

Solution

This error occurs due to the license file on your old server was expired at the time the backup file was created. According to this when trying to restore your data on your new server you will receive this error message as the NI VLM gains information from the backup file and recognizes your license file expired even you are using a new license file created for your new server.

The solution is as follows:
  • Obtain a new license file for your old server from NI (using your old server details).
  • Install this valid license file in NI VLM on the old server.
  • Create the backup file.
  • Install your valid license file (created for your new server) in NI VLM on your new server.
  • Restore your NI VLM data from the backup file.
