Issue Details

I attempted to run a self-calibration of a PXIe-5831 Vector Signal Transceiver (VST) in the RFmx Soft Front Panel, but the self-calibration fails. I get the following error:

Self-calibration failed.
NationalInstruments.RFmx.InstrMX: -1074100377: The internal measurement is outside of the expected range. Error code: -1074100377.

Why is this happening and how can I avoid it?

Solution

Self-calibration adjusts the PXIe-5831 for variations in the module environment using onboard power detectors. The PXIe-5831 modules are externally calibrated at the factory; however, you should perform self-calibration in several situations. For more information about these situations, take a look at the Self-Calibration section of the PXIe-5831 Getting Started Guide.

The main cause of this error is the wires of the system. If you are getting the message, NI recommends the following:
  • If your PXIe-5831 includes the mmWave instrumentation (PXIe-5653 and mmRH-5582), disconnect it to reduce the scope of the error.
  • If the error goes away, then disconnect all the wires in the mmWave hardware and reconnect them again. Try to run the self-calibration one more time.
  • If the error doesn't go away, then disconnect all the cables connecting the PXIe-5820 and the PXIe-3622. Reconnect them again. Pay close attention to the connectors. You must hear a "snap" to identify if they have connected correctly.
  • If the issue persists, try with a different set of wires for all the connections.
