Issue Details

I have thermocouples of various lengths up to 20 meters and the thicknesses of the wires differ as well. I'm trying to acquire data from them with different devices. When I attach them to a third-party device the measurement results differ up to 1 ℃. When I connect the thermocouples to NI C series TC modules the results are varying within 6℃ degrees or more. I want to know why it is so?

Solution

NI C Series TC modules are very sensitive and accurate devices. Their measured data is depended on the thermocouple length, wire thicknesses, junction type, and so on.
To obtain correct results it is necessary to provide correct settings for each Thermocouple depending on its wire length, thickness, junction method as their resistance will be different in the same environmental conditions.
There is a need to correctly adjust the CJC type and properly calibrate the Thermocouple before starting the acquisition.
