Issue Details

  • I connected a DUT pin with a voltage rating of -2.5V to 7.5V on PXIe-6571 pin. Referring to PXIe-6571 Specifications, it mentioned that the voltage range is -2V to 6V.

  • I can install a TVS to protect the PPMU up to 5V but I can’t seem to find any TVS that can clamp the -2.5V. Even if I install a relay to protect the digital pins, there is still a low possibility that the relay may be damaged and latch at some point. Is -2V the absolute lowest value? Or is there a tolerance that a -2.5V may be acceptable?

Solution

The device will be within specifications if the voltage rating is between -2V to 6V and that is where the device is intended to stay. Being slightly outside of those limits does not exceed the part ratings for the voltage, but that is where the device will be out of specifications and the channels will start to disconnect.

You are encouraged to use the device within the operating voltages as stated in its specification documentation. Anytime the DUT provides a voltage that is outside of the operating voltages, you should not expect warranted behavior.
