Solution

This message appears due to older NI MAX versions used Microsoft Silverlight to access a remote device but Microsoft Silverlight is not available now because it was officially set End of Life from Microsoft in October 2021, for this reason NI has removed the dependency of Microsoft Silverlight from new NI Software releases around this time.

The solution is based on updating NI MAX to the 21.0 or later version. NI MAX cannot be downloaded by itself. It is included with all NI drivers (NI System Configuration, NI-VISA, NI-DAQmx, etc.) and in the complete NI system configuration package, just make sure that the item NI Measurement & Automation Explorer is selected. Installing the latest version of any NI driver or system configuration will automatically install the latest version of NI MAX.

Additional Information

When installing MAX and Web-based Configuration and Monitoring 21.X, the Silverlight-based interfaces are still available as an optional package to maintain compatibility with older systems.

NI MAX 21.0 and NI Web-based Configuration and Monitoring 21.X releases use a Blazor-based application.
