NI-Serial Hardware Disappeared After BIOS Update in Windows 10

Updated Oct 5, 2021

Issue Details

I just updated the BIOS on my Windows 10 computer and some or all of my NI-Serial devices disappeared from NI Measurement and Automation Explorer. I checked the Windows Device Manager and they are showing up as hidden devices. There's a message saying that the driver could not start correctly, even though I have restarted the PC multiple times. How do I fix this?

Solution

Depending on the complexity of a BIOS upgrade, it is possible Windows 10 is no longer able to associate the cards to the corresponding driver. If this happens, try the following:

  1. Open Windows Device Manager.
  2. Click on View >> Show Hidden Devices.
  3. Look for your NI hardware and right click >> Uninstall.
  4. Restart your computer and reconnect all your devices.

If the above doesn't work, reinstall the corresponding driver through NI Package Manager and restart your computer.
