Issue Details

When conducting the short test, it looks like the NI cRIO 9063 chassis ground and the power supply COM terminal are directly connected. Is this an expected behavior?

Solution

The isolation between the chassis ground and the power supply COM is different for different NI cRIO models. For NI cRIO 9063, COM Power input is tied to the board’s GND through a common-mode choke. Chassis GND (cRIO's metal enclosure, connector shields, etc.) is directly connected to the board's GND at several locations. Therefore, it is expected to see a short between these two.

Additional Information

This behavior may vary across different models of NI cRIO devices.
For EMC compliance, the cRIO-9063 must be connected to the earth ground through the chassis ground screw. Please refer to NI cRIO 9063 manual for further details.
