PXIe-6738 Simultaneous Update While Using Multiplexer

Issue Details

PXIe-6738 has 32 channels of analog output divided into 8 banks. According to its device specification document, it shows that a multiplexer is used within each bank to share a single Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC). The same document also mentioned any channels being used within a single bank can be updated simultaneously.

Could you explain how simultaneous update is possible when a multiplexer is used? Could it be a documentation error?

Solution

It is not a documentation error. PXIe-6738 has "Sample and Hold" circuitry so even though every channel multiplexes through a single DAC, it will hold all the data and outputs on all 4 channels simultaneously.
