Monitoring License Usage on NI Volume License Manager

This article explains how you can view and export license usage reports from NI Volume License Manager (VLM) to monitor which client machines are accessing NI software through a Volume License Server.

 

By completing this task, you will be able to identify active users, track license consumption, and export usage data for further analysis.

 

This information is intended for system administrators or IT personnel responsible for managing NI software licenses.

View License Usage Reports in NI Volume License Manager

 

  1. Launch NI Volume License Manager on the host machine.
  2. In the left‑hand navigation pane, click Reports.
  3. Select the desired report type to view current or historical license usage.
  4. Review the displayed data to identify which clients are accessing NI software and how licenses are being consumed.

 

Note: Usage reports are not available for unmanaged concurrent licenses.

 

Export a Usage Report

 

  1. While viewing a report, click Export Report.
  2. Choose the desired export format:
    • .xlsx
    • .csv
    • .html
    • .mht
    • .png
  3. Save the file and use it for offline review or analysis.

Additional Information

 

  • If the report you need is not available by default, you can create a custom report using the report configuration options described in NI VLM documentation.
  • If you are using FlexNet Publisher (formerly FLEXlm), usage reports cannot be exported. This limitation applies regardless of the license type.
