GPIB-USB-HS+ Device Loses Communication Intermittently

Issue Details

I'm using a GPIB-USB-HS+ cable and it disconnects intermittently. This causes all my instrument sessions to stop and my software will start throwing errors due to this loss of connection.

Trying to rescan before disconnecting and reconnecting the instrument will cause NI-MAX to crash.

How can I ensure that the device won't lose connection?

 

Solution

This issue can appear if the computer momentarily goes to sleep due to its power settings. You can change this settings by going to your windows control panel.

Go to Windows Settings>>System>>Power & Sleep and under Sleep, set both of the drop down boxes to "Never" as shown below:
