Issue Details

When trying to connect a channel on my NI Switch Hardware, I see one of the following:
  • The channel does not make a connection in NI Measurement and Automation Explorer (NI MAX) or the NI-Switch Soft Front Panel when I click on it.
  • Error -1074126839: You cannot make an explicit connection to a configuration channel.
  • Status -200189: DAQmxErrorConnectionNotPermittedOnChanReservedForRouting
  • MqsLib.Instruments.InstrumentErrorException: 'ModularInstruments.NISwitch: You cannot make an explicit connection to a configuration channel.

Solution

Your NI-Switch channel is set to be a Configuration Channel. Setting a channel as a Configuration Channel allows NI-SWITCH to use the channel for internal path creation but prevents making explicit connections. To revert the channel back to its default state, follow these steps:

1. Select your NI-Switch device in NI MAX.
2. Click Configuration.
3. Click Channels in the resulting window.
4. This window shows all channels that are set to be either Source or Configuration (Reserved For Routing) Channels. Remove the channel you are trying to connect from the "Reserved For Routing" list.

Additional Information

Setting a channel to either a Source or Configuration Channel provides software protection to your channels only. No changes are being made in the hardware itself.
