  • Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)

Operating System

  • Windows

Issue Details

I am logged into an account that does not have administrator privileges and I receive the following error:

Error 8: creating temporary lvsb resource file.

When an administrator logs in, however, LabVIEW and NI MAX open fine. What is causing this?

Solution

This error occurs because your user account does not have permissions to some of the file directories that LabVIEW uses. Administrator accounts with full access do not experience this error because LabVIEW is able to access all the necessary directories. To solve this problem, an administrator will have to give your account access to these directories.
To find these directories:
  1. Open LabVIEW while logged into an administrator account.
  2. Go to Tools»Options.
  3. Select Paths in the Category section.
  4. Set user folder permission for these paths in Windows

Additional Information

If the problem persist try to contact your IT department in order to obtain the administrator privileges for running NI software.
