Issue Details

I have a dynamic voltage input sensor that measure a physical unit that is out of the InsightCM standard for example force, pressure and others.

Can I create an asset that can read this sensor and monitor this physical values on the server?

Solution

It is possible to achieve this, however, it will require to enable a feature using the command prompt on Windows.

To install the feature, follow the steps below.
  1. Open the command prompt as administrator.
  2. If InsightCM is installed in the default path then you need to go to this location with the following command: cd "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\InsightCM Server 3.0".
  3. On that folder run this command: InsightCMConsole.exe importdefinition -t asset -f "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\InsightCM Server 3.0\Supplemental Definitions\Voltage (Waveform).json".

Then, go to InsightCM web application and add the units to the voltage type.

  1. Log-in InsightCM web application.
  2. Go to Navigation Menu>>System>>Units.
  3. Click on Add Unit and enter the name of a unit (for example: Newton).
  4. Click Ok.
After that, you can go to the assets and add a voltage waveform asset.
  1. Open Configuration and click on Assets
  2. Click on Add expand sensors section and select Voltage (Waveform)

The last process will be to scale the voltage values to the actual Physical unit you are measuring. In order to achieve that you just need to open the specific asset you just created and go to Properties. There you will find the Sensitivity and offset field Those values correspond to "m" and "b" in the equation "y=mx+b".
