Issue Details

  • When I try to install NI software through NI Package Manager I get an error with the following message: No operation to be performed.
  • I removed all NI software from my system and I am now trying to install NI Package Manager, but I see this message.
  • I tried installing NI software, but I had previously cancelled the installation midway. Now when I run the installer again, I get the message that the package is already installed. But the software is not installed.

How can I resolve this so I can install the software correctly?

Solution

The No operation to be performed message indicates that the product is already installed or that partial installation data remains from an interrupted or canceled installation.

The additional packages listed the first time supplement the main product and are not essential to it. Showing those additional packages on the second time might give an illusion that the product is being installed even though it isn't, or that the installation failed the first time. So, this is currently the expected behavior.

If you are uncertain on whether this message is unexpected or not, please cover the following steps

  1. Check if the software is already installed by:
    • Opening NIPM >> INSTALLED tab and search for your software (applicable for 2019 or more recent NI software versions).
    • Searching for the software application on the PC and being able to open it successfully (not applicable for drivers).
    • Following the steps in the Determine the Version of the NI Software Installed on My Computer. This option is useful for old setups that don't have NIPM.
  2. If the software is already installed, but you can't use it or it's not being properly recognized:
  3.  If you want to add the additional packages that you did not select initially:
    • They can be installed from the PACKAGES tab or using the Install or remove related packages option present in for each package in the INSTALLED tab in NIPM.
    • Additional packages are fetched from ni.com so for completely offline systems, these options will not work directly. For offline systems, the workflow is to first register the offline feed and then proceed with any of the two options given under step 3.
  4. If NIPM is not installed or it has been canceled or interrupted:
    • If there is a newer version of NIPM available, run the online or offline installer.
    • Run the NIPackageManager64.msi from C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\MDF\ProductCache\NI Package Manager <version> folder.
    • Doing any of the above two steps should install NIPM. NI Package Manager should be visible from the start menu search bar.
