Issue Details

I connect my USB 3.0 Camera to my Computer and open NI MAX. When I try to select a higher framerate or lower shutter speed for example, it will not allow me to go as high or low as the parameters of my camera per the datasheet.

(NI MAX does not allow me to use a lower exposure despite the camera being capable of it)
How can I fix this?

Solution

Typically this error only occurs when the camera has been previously plugged into a USB 2.0 port instead of a USB 3.0 port. In very rare cases NI-IMAQdx does not update the internal profile that gets generated anytime a camera gets connected to your computer.

To fix this issue, please follow these steps:
  1. Make sure that the Camera is connect to a USB 3.0 port and not USB 2.0.
  2. If the parameters are still as per the datasheet, please proceed.
  3. Unplug your camera from your computer and close NI MAX.
  4. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the following folder: C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\NI-IMAQdx\Data
  5. Find the .icd file with the model name of your camera and delete it.
  6. Navigate to the XML folder and delete any file that has the model name of the camera you are having issues with.
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Plug the camera back into the computer
  9. Open NI MAX. You should now be able to set the correct parameters for your camera

Additional Information

You may experience this issue outside of NI MAX with another software that makes use of NI-IMAQdx, such as LabVIEW.
In that case you will also have to perform the troubleshooting steps listed in this article.
