Issue Details

  • I am using a MXI system and some of my PXI(e) peripheral cards are appearing in Windows Device Manager with error 52. How can I fix this?
  • In Windows Device Manager, my PXI card appears with a device status of "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device." What's causing this?
  • I see the following error in Windows Device Manager:
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

Solution

This error is caused by problems related to the PXI card's driver. The driver may be:
  • Incorrectly installed
  • Corrupt
  • Blocked by Windows security
  • In very rare cases, modified by malicious software

Follow the steps below to resolve error 52:
  • Verify that the correct drivers have been installed.
  • Try removing and reinstalling the driver to ensure that the files are not corrupt.
  • Update your driver to the latest compatible version.
    • Check the readme document on the driver download page to determine if the latest version supports your hardware.
  • In some cases, Windows may be failing to trust the driver's digital signature. Disable Secure Boot to work around this.
