PXIe-517x Safe Working Temperature

Updated Apr 21, 2020

Issue Details

  • Where can I find information about the maximum acceptable temperature for my PXIe-517x device?
  • What is an acceptable range of working temperature for my PXIe-517x?
  • I am concerned about the operating temperature of my PXIe-517x. At what temperature should I be alarmed?

The maximum safe working temperature for the PXIe-517x family is dependent on environmental conditions and the device itself.

To find the thermal shutdown temperature of the device, the library of Configuration Host VIs should be used. In particular, the output of "Read Temperature.vi" specifies the thermal shutdown limit of the FPGA sensor. These VIs are included in the LabVIEW Instrument Design Libraries for Reconfigurable Oscilloscopes

The specifications document for the PXIe-517x lists an ambient temperature range of 0-45 ⁰C. This indicates the range of environmental temperatures that are safe for the device.
The nominal and measured specifications are valid under room temperature (approximately 23 ⁰C) unless other wise stated.

Additional Information

These devices are protected against excessive temperatures by a thermal shutdown. The hardware will generate an error signal to warn the user of a fault condition. In the event that the fault condition is not corrected, the device will shut down.

More information about this can be found at Thermal Monitoring and Shutdown.
