Not Discovering All the Targets With RAD Utillity

Updated Apr 13, 2020

Issue Details

I have a system with more than 30 CompactRIOs connected on the same subnet. When I open RAD, there are always targets missing that I need to add manually.

Solution

I could be that the program is not given enough time to go through the discovery of all the targets. To fix this, you can do the following:
  1. Go to the Deployment Targets Settings
  2. Increase Global Timeout to a higher value
  3. Uncheck the Reduce Discovery Timeout Option
  4. Refresh

Alternatively, if you know the ip addresses of the targets , you can add the manually to the rad_config.ini file.

  1. Locate the rad_config.ini file under C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\RAD
  2. Add your targets under User Targets section with the syntax below:

[User Targets]
Number = N
Target0 = "192.168.50.30"
Target1 = "192.168.50.31"
.
.
.
Target(N-1) = "x.x.x.x"

Where N is the number of targets and each TargetN key is the IP address on the cRIO.

3. Save .ini file. (typically the editor must be opened in administrator mode to allow write/read on files in the C drive)
4. Run RAD and see the targets loading on initialization.
