Thermocouple Acquisition at High Sample Rates

Issue Details

I need to acquire thermocouple data at high sample rates, however, I see that the thermocouple input modules for PXI and C Series modules can't go above 90S/s/ch and 95S/s/ch respectively.

Is there a module that I can use to get higher sample rates?

Solution

First, it is important to mention that temperature applications usually do not require high sample rates because temperature does not change very fast, so NI thermocouple input modules prioritize accuracy instead of high sample rates.

However, there are applications where it is true that a high sample rate can be required. For these cases, it is recommended to use the PXIe-4302 analog input module, because the terminal block TB-4302 has Cold-Junction Compensation (CJC) sensors as well, and keep a 5KS/s/ch acquisition.

Additional Information

It is important to mention that the PXIe-4302 won't be as accurate as the PXIe-4353, but if the high sample rate is a critical requirement, the PXIe-4302 still offers descent specifications for thermocouple measurements while using the 100mV input range.
