Issue Details

I am using an NI PXIe-1095 chassis along with specific PXI modules. When taking continuity measurements with a digital multimeter, I notice that the chassis earth ground has connections to the signal grounds on the various modules (i.e. PXIe-6547). Is this intended behavior or is there additional configuration to isolate signal grounds on the modules from earth ground of the PXIe-1095 chassis?

Solution

The isolation characteristic depends on the specific PXI module in question and is not configurable either by hardware or software in the PXI chassis. However, all the NI isolated modules are physically isolated from earth ground. For instance, the PXIe-4310 analog input module offers 600V channel-to-channel isolation. Consult the module’s datasheet or specifications document for isolation characteristics.

Additional Information

The PXI chassis is grounded through the power cable to the AC power outlet. The ground connections are hard-wired internally and then routed through the backplane to each of the PXI modules.
