Issue Details

I want to use a PXIe-8521, PXIe-8522 or PXIe-8523 card for Automotive Ethernet communication. Although I have installed all the recommended software and drivers like the PXI Platform Services and NI-XNET, the device is not showing up in NI-MAX. The PXI/PXIe controller is running Phar Lap ETS as Real-Time OS.

Solution

The PXIe-8521, PXIe-8522 and PXIe-8523 modules are not supported on PXI/PXIe controllers running Phar Lap ETS Real-Time OS. You will need to switch to a PXIe controller that is running NI Linux RT or Windows OS. On some controllers the Real-Time OS can be changed from Phar Lap ETS to NI Linux Real-Time. Refer to Real-Time Controllers and Real-Time Operating System Compatibility for information on PXIe controllers that are able to switch the Real-Time OS.

Additional Information

There are currently no plans for a Phar Lap ETS support for these devices. Under NI Linux RT and Windows any of the three mentioned devices should normally appear in NI-MAX. Under Windows the different ethernet ports also appear in the network adapter settings of the operating system.
