Issue Details

I am trying to upgrade a PXI(e) controller with the Windows 10 IoT Field Upgrade Kit from NI, but when booting the system from the USB drive, I get a Black Screen, with the message Non-System disk or disk error Replace and press any key when ready followed by the message No bootable partition in table.

Solution

This error occurs when your controller has a BIOS version that is not compatible with Windows 10.

1) Enter into the BIOS by pressing the Delete key after power up your controller, go to the main tab, and verify that the BIOS version of your controller is 2.0 or above. In the following chart, you will see the oldest versions of the BIOS compatible with the Windows 10 IoT Upgrade Kit.

ControllerBIOS Version
PXI-88402.0.1f0
PXI-8840 Quad-Core2.0.0f5
PXIe-88212.0.2f0
PXIe-88402.0.1f0
PXIe-8840 Quad-Core2.0.2f0
PXIe-88802.1.0f0

2) If your controller does not have a compatible BIOS version, upgrade the BIOS following the tutorial Determining and Upgrading PXI and VXI Embedded Controller BIOS Versions.
3) Plug in the USB Field Upgrade Kit.
4) Power on the controller and immediately tap F10 until the boot menu loads.
5) Select the option UEFI: TOSHIBA TOSHIBA USB DRV PMAP and press Enter to boot from the USB drive.
