Troubleshooting My Remote Device Discovery in NI MAX

The 'Troubleshoot Remote System Discovery' is a NI Measurement & Automation (MAX) tool that launches a wizard that diagnoses the problems regarding the connection of remote devices to your computer.

  1. Launch NI MAX.
  2. Click the Remote Devices tab.
  3. Click Troubleshoot Remote System Discovery.
  4. From the drop-down menus, select the type and model of your remote device. Click Next.
  5. Check the software compatibility of your system by selecting the programming environment to be used in the drop-down menu. Click Next.
  6. If firewalls are not blocking the connection of the device to the computer, click Next. The search for the device will begin. 
  7. If firewalls are blocking the connections:
    1. If you have administrator privileges, click Add Rules to immediately unblock the connection. Click Next. The search for the device will begin.
    2. If you do not have administrator privileges, click Export Rules to generate a report to the system administrator.
  8. In case the device is not found, tick the box My system was not detected. Click Next.
  9. Provide all the information regarding your setup that is requested for successful discovery of the device. Click Next.
  10. Enter the hostname or IP address of the device. Click Discovery.
  11. If the device is not found, make sure it is powered on and connected to the PC.
    1. If it is, click Next.
    2. If it is not, make sure it is well-connected to the PC and power it on. Click Discovery. Click Next in case the device is not found.
  12. Follow the steps on the checklist to restart the system in safe mode. The search for the device will begin. 
  13. In case the device is not found, check the box My system was not detected. Click Next.
  14. Follow the steps on the checklist to reset the device's IP address. The search for the device will begin. 
  15. In case the device is not found, check the box My system was not detected. Click Next.
  16. In case the device is not found, refer to the additional troubleshooting steps provided and/or contact NI. Click Close
