How to Activate an NI Product With a Serial Number Not Linked to My ni.com Account?

Issue Details

  • I would like to activate a National Instruments product on a computer. I would like to use a Serial Number which is different than the ones already associated with my ni.com account. What should I do?
  • NI product keeps activating with a different Serial Number than I want. How can I fix this?

Solution

The process may vary depending on your version of NI License Manager. Please verify your version of the software and follow the listed steps.

 

Ni License Manager 4.0-4.4:
 

1.      Open NI License Manager

2.      Navigate to the Activate Software icon at the top of the window

3.      Enter your credentials and log in if prompted

4.      NI License Manager will check the products associated with your Serial Number

5.      Click Skip as fast as possible

6.      After skipping checking you will be able to enter the desired Serial Number on the following screen:

 

 

Ni License Manager 4.5, 4.6 and newer:
 

1.      Open NI License Manager

2.      Navigate to Activate Software icon at the top of the window

3.      Enter your credentials and log in if prompted

4.      Select Enter a Serial Number from the Drop Down list

 

5.      Paste your Serial Number to the appropriate fields of unactivated products

6.      Click Activate

Additional Information

If you accidentally activated with a wrong Serial Number associated to you account:

1.      Navigate to the Local Licenses icon

2.      Find your wrongly activated product

3.      Right click on the listed product, then select Deactivate
