Issue Details

I'm using NI PXI 8433 serial interface module for isolated communication with RS422. I'm worried about using a overvoltage diode for the safety purpose. I wanted to know, whether this card requires any additional voltage protection.

Solution

NI PXI 8433 is an isolated serial interface module which provides upto 2,000Vrms/60s (port to port and port to host machine) of isolation which protects the host machine from over voltage. In addition, this module provides upto 12,000 volts of electrostatic discharge protection. Hence, no need to use a voltage protection diode if your operating voltage is under the specified voltage range.
