Issue Details

After adding a NI-XNET module in a networked CompactDAQ Ethernet Chassis, I am observing that NI MAX briefly recognizes the module before showing the error:

The connection with a CompactDAQ chassis was lost, and the host software and modules are out of sync. There is no direct recovery for this problem until the chassis is reset.

This error disappears if the chassis or module is refreshed, just to come back again a few seconds later. Executing the self-test will complete successfully, as illustrated in the following image.

When I connect the CompactDAQ chassis directly to the PC via Ethernet and use Link-Local addressing, the issue disappears.

Solution

Review your network environment settings such as IP address, subnet mask, and gateway for both the PC and CompactDAQ. If you set static IP addresses on these devices instead of using a DHCP server for automatic assignment, ensure they are unique across the network. A detailed guide with additional troubleshooting steps can be found in the article Troubleshooting Network cDAQ Connectivity Issues.

For maximum reliability and performance, also consider using a dedicated network to communicate with the CompactDAQ and other control and acquisition devices, isolated from the corporate network and its traffic.
