Issue Details

  • Is it possible to install two Volume License Managers (VLM) on the same computer? I want to host two license files.

  • A license server has VLM 3.1 and we would like to upgrade it to VLM 3.3. Can I keep both versions on the same computer?

Solution

  • You cannot have two VLMs versions installed at the same time on a computer. However, it is possible to combine two license files when both are created for subscription licenses.

  • You cannot install two different versions of VLM on the same computer. For example, when you install VLM 3.3 on the license server that already has VLM 3.1 installed, VLM 3.1 will be deleted.

Additional Information

You can only manage one volume license file in NI VLM at a time. If you need to merge multiple Volume License Agreements, email services@ni.com to get a single volume license file.

There are some cases where you have to prepare two PCs for the license server. For example, we cannot combine LF1 and LF2.
LF1: 3 seats, LabVIEW Professional 2019 and older versions
LF2: 1 seat, LabVIEW Professional 2022 (latest), and older versions

LF1 is often generated for permanent licenses. On the other hand, LF2 is generated for subscription licenses.
