Issue Details

  • Is it possible to install two Volume License Managers (VLM) on the same computer? I want to host two license files using separate servers.

  • A license server currently has VLM 3.3 installed, and we would like to upgrade it to a newer version. Is it possible to keep both versions installed on the same computer?

Solution

You cannot have two versions of Volume License Manager (VLM) installed on the same computer at the same time. However, it is possible to combine two license files if both were created for subscription licenses.

You cannot install two different versions of VLM on the same computer. For example, if you install VLM 2025 Q4 on a license server that already has VLM 3.3 installed, VLM 3.3 will be removed during the installation process.

Additional Information

You can manage only one volume license file in NI Volume License Manager (VLM) at a time. If you need to merge multiple Volume License Agreements, please email services@ni.com to request a single consolidated volume license file. If you wish to host a second license using Volume License Manager (VLM), you can create a new server instance to install and manage your additional license.

If you would like more information about license merging and the conditions required to merge one license into another, please refer to the following document: Add New Single‑Seat Users into an Existing Volume License Agreement (VLA).
