Issue Details

  • I am trying to install LabWindows™/CVI from Package Manager, but keep receiving error -2147023589. Why does this happen?
  • When installing LabWindows/CVI, Package Manager produces the error below. How can I fix this?
An error occurred while installing a package: ni-msdt-windows-sdk (8.1.6.49152-0+f0)

Additional error information:
The executable returned error '-2147023589' after running the custom execute command
'path='"C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Temp\nipkg-dec0-a9a0-28b1-f142\data\sdk\sdksetup.exe"', arguments='/norestart /quiet /features OptionId.WindowsDesktopSoftwareDevelopmentKit''.

Solution

This error commonly occurs due to insufficient user account privileges. Ensure that:
  • The user account has been configured with administrator privileges.
  • Package Manager is launched as an administrator.
    • In the Windows search bar, type "Package Manager".
    • Right-click the NI Package Manager application and select Run as administrator.
If the error persists despite having administrator privileges, follow the additional steps below:
  1. Verify that the sdksetup.exe can be located in the specified directory.
  2. If the Windows Software Development Kit was manually installed prior to installing LabWindows/CVI, refer to LabWindows™/CVI™ Error "You Must Install Microsoft Windows SDK".
