How to Identify the Hardware Revision of MXI Modules

  • PXIe-8398
  • PXIe-8399
  • PXIe-8394
  • PXIe-8301

This guide will assist you in determining the hardware revision of the following MXI hardware:
  • PXIe-8301 Remote Control Modules
  • PXIe-8398 Remote Control Modules
  • PXIe-8399 Remote Control Modules
  • PXIe-8394 Bus Expansion Modules
The task involves removing the module from the PXIe chassis, locating the printed part number, and extracting the hardware revision information from the part number.

General Steps

  1. Shut down the PXIe chassis that has the target module installed.
  2. Unplug the target module from the chassis
  3. Inspect the left side of the module for the part number and revision letter.

For the PXIe-8394, PXIe-8398, PXIe-8399 Gen 3 MXI modules:

  1. The figure below shows the location of the part number

  • The first row of text is the part number. Identify the letter prior to the hyphen.
    • In this example, the letter is an H. This indicates this module is hardware revision H.

For the PXIe-8301 MXI module:

  • The first row of text is the part number. Identify the letter prior to the hyphen.
    • In this example, the letter is an H. This indicates this module is hardware revision H.
