Issue Details

I have a PXI-8512 device and connect with my host computer. However , when open Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) and found that under Device and Interfaces its appear PXI-8531. How can i resolve this?

Solution

The main reason that causing this is due to PXI-8512 and the PXI-8531 modules are almost identical. For PXI-8512 is performing CAN while PXI-8531 is performing CANopen communication. CANopen is a high-level communication protocol and device profile specification that is based on the CAN protocol. Since they share the physical and Data Link layer, it is understandable that the PXI-8512 and the PXI-8531 hardware-wise are almost identical.

However, the biggest difference is the firmware that runs on the modules. Its should correlate to the model number and report back to NI MAX and drivers. Therefore, it is
advisable to perform firmware update.

Additional Information

For this PXI-8512 device at this moment had confirmed that there is no option to manually perform a firmware update. Therefore , it would be most efficient to initiate an RMA procedure to resolve this issue by reload the proper firmware on it.
