Can LabVIEW/Multisim Co-Simulation be Deployed to an Real-Time Target?

Updated Nov 27, 2024

Issue Details

I have a LabVIEW Project, that includes a VI with Multisim Co-Simulation code. Can I deploy this project to a Real-Time Target?

Solution

It is not possible to deploy LabVIEW/Multisim Co-Simulation code to a Real-Time target

  • LabVIEW/Multisim Co-Simulation Code requires a LabVIEW plug-in that is last compatible with LabVIEW 2016.
  • LabVIEW Control Design and Simulation Module is also required for Co-Simulation, but LabVIEW Real-Time support was not added until version 2018. (Note: The LabVIEW Control Design and Simulation Module was deprecated in 2023, meaning that the latest version available for download is 2022 Q3. See details here: Control Design and Simulation VIs for LabVIEW 2023 and Newer)
  • Multisim is the only Tool/Application NI has to create simulated circuits.

Additional Information

The only method of deploying a Multisim created circuit (PLD), to an FPGA Target, is deploying to an NI Digital Electronics FPGA Board (DEFB), confirmed in this NI Article. The article also verifies that this resulting code will not be able to be added to LabVIEW VIs.
