The PXIe-8881 is shipped with a pre-installed operating system, that NI recommends using. There are occasions when an end user needs to re-install the OS. This tutorial guides you through setting up the drivers after installing Windows 11. The steps described here will ensure the driver installation goes smoothly.

  1. Install Windows 11 on to the PXIe-8881 controller.
    1. Note: The graphics resolution may be 800x600 until the video driver is installed.
  2. Open a web browser and navigate to the PXIe-8881 Firmware and Additional Drivers download page.

    2. In the Firmware Type pulldown menu select Peripheral Drivers.
    3. Press the Download button to download the zip file.
    4. Extract the folder from the zip file to an accessible location.
    5. The extracted folder contains drivers for Windows 10 and 11.
  3. Installing the Radeon AMD 6465 Driver.
    1. Before installing the driver, you need to disable Windows 11 Memory integrity security, or the video driver will not load.
    2. Open Windows Settings and search for Memory.
    3. Core Isolation will be one of the results. Select it.
    4. Turn Memory integrity off.

  4. Installing the SATA/AHCI Controller drivers.
    1. Run SetupRST.exe located at: <Folder>:\8881_Drivers\8881 Win11 Drivers & App\8881 Win11 Drivers\Intel RST
    2. Important: Do not switch/select to Intel RST Premium Mode.
      1. The installer will recommend switching to Intel RST Premium Mode.
      2. If you select this option, the controller will not boot.
      3. To rectify this issue, you will need to reset the 8881 CMOS memory with the reset button, and possibly have to reinstall the OS.
    3. Reboot the controller.
  5. Install the other drivers included with the download and reboot the controller after each install.
  6. Install NI PXI Platform Services and reboot.
  7. Once all the drivers are installed, Windows Device Manager should look similar to the screenshot below:
