  • PXIe-5764

Issue Details

  • Can I use external reference clock for my PXIe-5764's sample clock with frequency other than 1 GHz?
  • Can I use external reference clock for my PXIe-5764's reference clock with frequency other than 10 MHz?
  • Why am I getting error when using PXIe-5764 with external reference clock?

Solution

As mentioned in the PXIe-5764 Specifications, to use external reference clock for reference clock and sample clock of PXIe-5764, 10 MHz and 1 GHz must be used respectively. This specific clock frequency must be used when you use external reference clock for your PXIe-5764 else you will get error when you run your application. Even if you are able to run your application with different clock frequency without getting any error, the performance of PXIe-5764 will no longer be guarantee as mentioned in its specification.

Additional Information

The 10 MHz requirement for reference clock is due to PXIe-5764's internal hardware requirement while 1 GHz must be used for PXIe-5764's sample clock because PXIe-5764 supports only 1 GHz of sampling rate.
