Issue Details

  • I believe my database in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) may be corrupted and I would like to reset my MAX configuration data, but I am unable to open MAX.  How can I reset my MAX configuration data without launching the application?
  • When attempting to open MAX, the splash screen gets stuck on Initializing, how can I resolve this?
  • When I open MAX, it takes a long time to open and my devices are not visible. Doing anything within MAX takes a long time, is there any way to fix this without launching MAX?

Solution

On Windows-Based Systems:

Version 5.0 and higher of MAX provides a stand-alone executable which will reset the MAX configuration data on the system. The executable can be found in the Shared folder of your National Instruments installation path. The most common paths for this executable are:

C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\Reset NI Config\ResetNIConfig.exe

or:

C:\Program Files(x86)\National Instruments\Shared\Reset NI Config\ResetNIConfig.exe

Navigate to this directory and launch the executable.  If you are sure that you would like to reset the configuration data, select Yes and restart your machine.

On Linux-Based Systems:

On Linux the stand-alone executable is provided by the ni-hwcfg-utility package. By installing this package for your releveant linux distribution, you can run the command: resetniconfig, in order to delete the MAX/NI Hardware Configuration Utility database/configuration.
