I want to remove all current license servers from my Volume License Manager. I have reinstalled the VLM but my databases from the previous installation are still stored in the program and I want them gone so that I can create a new one. How can I force a total reset of the Volume License Manager?

Go to the folder C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\Volume License Manager on your computer. Keep in mind that ProgramData is a hidden folder.

Delete the following three files:

  • nilm.opt
  • nivlm.dat
  • nivlm.lic

Please note that beginning with 2023 Q1 version, NI VLM uses an SQLite database instead of SQL CE. As a result, the database file is now named nivlm.sqlite.dat. In this case, please ensure that you delete this file as well.

Next time when you launch Volume License Manager, it will load the startup screen as it has not been configured before.
