Why Does my Compact Vision System (CVS) 145x Not Appear in MAX?

Issue Details

I have an NI Compact Vision System (CVS) 145x and I do not see it when I look under Remote Systems in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).  When I use Vision Builder for Automated Inspection or LabVIEW, the CVS is identified. Why is my CVS not appearing in MAX?

Solution

Check the following when troubleshooting your NI CVS 145x in MAX:
  • Verify that the same version of the NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 driver is installed on your system as on your CVS. The NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 driver is required for MAX to identify the CVS system under Remote Systems. If you have an older driver on your PC than is on the CVS, MAX will not recognize the CVS.
     
  • Verify that no other remote devices have the same IP address as the CVS.
     
  • Verify that power is being supplied to the CVS system by checking the Power LED.
     
  • If you are connecting to the CVS through the network, try connecting directly to the CVS using a crossover cable, then refresh MAX and see if the CVS now appears.
     
  • Connect a monitor to the CVS to see if its IP address responds. 
     
  • Reboot the CVS into safemode and again refresh MAX.
     
  • CVS will not show up in MAX if there is no software installed into it. So while on safe mode, from MAX install the appropriate software to your CVS according to your application. Follow the steps outlined in the NI 1450 Series Compact Vision System Quick Start Guide or NI 1450 Series Compact Vision System User Manual to download the appropriate software. After reinstalling the software you can reboot the CVS into Normal Mode. It should show up in MAX. 
     
  • If you know the IP address of the CVS, you can try to add the CVS manually as a Remote System by doing the following:
    1. Right-Click on Remote Systems in MAX.
    2. Select Create New...
    3. Select Remote Device (not on the local subnet) as shown below.
    4. Enter the IP address of the CVS.

Additional Information

All troubleshooting steps previously described are for CVS-145x RT devices. If you're using a CVS-145x embedded Windows device, it shouldn't appear on MAX.

In order to install the software on CVS -145x embedded Windows devices, use a USB drive or connect it to the internet and download the software from National Instruments web page .
