Issue Details

Can I deploy the LabVIEW NI Industrial Communication for IEC-61850 driver on Windows?

Solution

The NI-IndCom for IEC 61850 software driver is a set of LabVIEW functions used to create IEC 61850 outstation or client applications. You can program theses functions on Windows computers for development and debugging and then deploy them on NI Real-Time targets such as CompactRIO, Single-BoardRIO, and PXI for field application. However it is not licensed for deployment on Windows-based computer.

Additional Information

Certain sets of VIs work on Windows PCs. So, they can be used for simple testing, prototyping and debugging on Windows PCs. For example, the following pair of example programs are comprised of such VIs and, therefore, can communicate with each other without NI Real-Time targets.
  • Server: Access BCR.vi (found on IEC61850 MMS Server.lvproj)
  • Client: Read BCR.vi (found on IEC61850 MMS Client.lvproj)
However, many of the VIs are supported only by NI Real-Time targets. Hence, to take full advantage of the driver, one should consider purchasing it on the basis that the actual program will be deployed to an NI Real-Time target. Refer to Readme for hardware requirements for VIs.
