Driver

  • NI-DAQmx 18.1

Operating System

  • Linux

Issue Details

The NI Platform for Linux Desktop manual states that to run NI DAQmx, I only need to install the ni-daqmx package. However, the DAQmx VIs are missing from the Measurement I/O palette in LabVIEW.

On my Linux computer:

  • When I open a VI that contains NI-DAQmx code, I get an error such as NI-DAQmx Driver support for LabVIEW 20XX is missing, or  The subVI could not be found when loading this VI. The missing subVI is part of the NI-DAQmx Driver. Exit LabVIEW and install or repair the NI-DAQmx Driver.
  • When I open a new VI and look for DAQmx VIs on the Functions Palette, I do not see any DAQmx VIs.

Solution

The DAQmx driver installation on Linux does not automatically install the support for LabVIEW; therefore, it needs to be done manually.

  • The data acquisition palette relies on two packages: ni-daqmx and ni-daqmx-labview-20xy-support. Although the NI Platform on Linux Desktop manual lists the ni-daqmx-labview-20xy-support as optional, installing it is essential for full LabVIEW integration and to ensure that DAQmx VIs appear correctly.
  • The "xy" characters in the ni-daqmx-labview-20xy-support, refer to the LabVIEW version.
  • Starting at LabVIEW 2022 Q3, the package that should be installed instead of ni-daqmx-labview-20xy-support is ni-daqmx-labview-support.
