Issue Details

I need to communicate through FieldBus with third-party devices using a cRIO: what hardware device do I need?

Solution

You can use the USB-8486 for connecting your cRIO with your Fieldbus device and use the NI‑FBUS driver, NI‑FBUS Configurator, and NI‑FBUS Monitor for programming.
As reported on the NI-FBUS 16.0 Readme (latest NI-FBUS drivers version), however, just a subset of the RIOs are supported: you can use the USB-8486 only with the following cRIOs:
  • cRIO 901x
  • cRIO 902x
  • cRIO 9068
  • cRIO 9076
  • cRIO 908x

Additionally, as indicated on the readme, the NI-FBUS cRIO support has been dropped starting from NI-FBUS 15.0: you can therefore use the USB-8486 with a cRIO only with NI-FBUS 5.0 and 14.0.
