NILM Using or Showing Wrong Serial Number for Product Activation

Issue Details

I have a Serial Number for Single Seat Activation, but when I enter it on the NI License Manager it is not being used for activation, it shows an incorrect Serial Number.

Solution

In order to troubleshoot this behavior please try the following steps:
  1. Check if your NI License Manager is pointing to a Volume Server and remove the server name if it is.
  2. Deactivate the software.
  3. Look for the Evaluation License Files for the software showing this behavior. (i.e. Evaluation License File for LabVIEW Development System 2018)
  4. Replace the files located in these folders:
    Windows XP<Program Files>\National Instruments\Shared\License Manager\Licenses\
    Windows 7/8/10<ProgramData>\National Instruments\License Manager\Licenses\
  5. Reactivate the software with the serial number you would like to use.
  6. Contact NI Support.

Additional Information

If the NI License Manager was pointing to a VLM server, it may have used the Serial Number associated to that Agreement and that's why it was showing incorrect information. Make sure that the License Manager is not pointing to that server anymore before you deactivate, reinstall the license files and reactivate the software.
