NI MAX Does Not Show Remote Systems Tab or Devices on My Network

Updated Apr 23, 2020

Reported In

Software

  • Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)

Driver

  • NI CompactRIO

Issue Details

  • I want to connect and configure my remote target using NI MAX but I cannot see the Remote Systems tab.
  • The Remote Systems tab searches for a while and doesn't find any devices.
  • I can add my devices manually or detect them in my LabVIEW project, yet they don't appear in the Remote Systems tab.

Solution

This issue is explicitly caused by NI-MAX and is not a network configuration issue. Following these steps should fix the issue of not seeing the Remote Systems tab and not having the tab automatically populate with network devices.
  1. Make sure you have the correct version of the NI CompactRIO driver installed.
  2. Try a NI MAX Configuration Database Reset .
  3. Force reinstall the NI CompactRIO driver.
  4. Force reinstall the System Configuration installer.

Note: Remote Systems will only populate if they are Real-Time OS systems. If working with a Windows OS system, you will not be able to see it under Remote Systems of a separate PC on the same network. If you would like to access the Windows OS system, you can remote in by using the Windows Remote Desktop Connection application.

Additional Information

If your targets cannot be added manually or cannot be found in your LabVIEW project, then it may be a connectivity issue and can follow the steps in found in NI CompactRIO or Network Device Doesn't Show Up or is Missing in MAX
