Using Multiple Channels on Multifunction I/O Devices That are Not Simultaneously Sampled

Updated Feb 15, 2019

Reported In

Hardware

  • Multifunction I/O Device

Issue Details

  • Does "no simultaneous sampling" mean I can only use one input/output channel at once?
  • Can I use multiple channels on my DAQ device at the same time if the device is not simultaneously sampled?

Solution

"Simultaneously sampled" does not refer to the use of multiple channels at the same time, but instead to the method of sampling utilized by the device. The two methods of sampling are simultaneous or multiplexed. The difference between the two sampling methods is described in detail in Multiplexed Versus Simultaneous Sampling - NI-DAQmx Help.

Both devices that are simultaneously sampled and devices that are multiplexed are capable of using multiple input and output channels at the same time.
