Issue Details

  • When I look for my NI Hardarwe device (C series module, USB device, R series board, GPIB-USB-HS, etc.) in Windows Device Manager, the device appears with an exclamation point or yellow warning symbol. When I look at the device properties, I get the following error message: This device cannot start (Code 10).

Solution

Code 10 is a Windows error that is usually caused by outdated or corrupted drivers. Try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.
  • Ensure that the Windows Service "NI Device Loader" is running. If using GPIB, ensure "NI GPIB Hardware Enumeration Service" is also running.
  • Make sure you have the latest compatible version of the drivers. For example, for the GPIB-USB-HS make sure that NI-488.2 driver  is installed by referring to NI Hardware and Software Operating System Compatibility
  • If you already have the latest compatible version of the driver installed, repair the driver.
  • Disconnect and reconnect your device.
  • If you are still experiencing issues, please contact NI Support.
