Issue Details

While installing software through NI Package Manager (NIPM) I get one of the following error messages:

Error occurred while installing a package: <PACKAGE-NAME>.
Error occurred while removing a package: <PACKAGE_NAME>.

This is the generic error that NI Package Manager returns when there was an issue installing or removing a package. To determine the underlying issue causing the error to occur, you can look at the NI Package Manager logs. It's recommended that you start by looking at the errorlog.txt log. Looking at the end of that log should show the most recent error occurred.

Once you have these logs and if the error is not clear, feel free to contact NI Support or to post to the NI Package Manager Discussion Forums

The first troubleshooting steps you can try out:
  • Install all pending windows updates.
  • Deactivate your firewall and antivirus software.
  • Upgrade to the latest version of NI Package Manager.
  • Restart NI Service Locator and NI Configuration Manager in Windows Services
  • Install the packages you are attempting to install using its offline distribution (if available).
If the initial troubleshooting steps above do not resolve the issue, uninstall all NI software and reinstall the requested software.

Additional Information

You may need to enable MSI logs, per the link in the solution, if the error occurred while running an MSI from within a package that you were installing. NI does not recommend leaving MSI logs enabled when not troubleshooting installation issues. Enabling MSI logs will increase the time it takes to install packages so if enabled for troubleshooting, you should disable them when you're done troubleshooting.
