  • Vision Acquisition Software

Issue Details

  • Upon opening NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) with a camera, the snap or grab image is black. This vision application is not using any special illumination.
  • I am unable to set the exposure on my GigE camera using NI MAX because I can only see an empty table on Camera Attributes.
  • Some attributes that I expected to see in NI MAX are not there. Why?

Solution

You may see this behaviour if there is an incompatibility with the software or corruption in the file that is downloaded. Confirm the following:
  1. Check NI MAX for your Frame Grabber.
  2. Check if the firmware is corrupt or out of date.
    • Confirm that the camera is GigE Vision Compliant.
    • Confirm that the Firmware is up to date (check with the camera's manufacturer).
    • Re-open the GigE camera in NI MAX.
  3. Verify the list of expected attributes by looking at the camera's user manual and XML file.
    • Confirm that NI MAX is listing these attributes.

Additional Information

When you open a GigE camera, NI's vision software downloads an XML file from the camera to populate the Camera Attributes in NI MAX. If it's corrupt or the cameras firmware is out of date it could not load it properly.
